Preparation

The part you never see in the photos — and the reason the finish lasts. We protect your home, then wash, sand, patch and prime every surface properly before a single finish coat goes on.

Surface preparation — sanding and patching illustration

The finish is decided before the paint comes out.

Most paint failures — peeling, flaking, bubbling, cracking along joins — trace back to shortcuts in preparation, not the paint itself. That's why we treat prep as the most important stage of every job. Surfaces are washed and sanded, cracks and holes are patched, gaps are filled, and repairs are spot-primed so they disappear under the finish coats.

On exteriors this matters even more. Salt air, sun and coastal weather in the Eastern Suburbs punish poorly prepared surfaces, so we take flaking paint back to a sound base and use the right primers and sealers for timber, render, brick and metal.

Protect & mask

Drop sheets, plastic covers and careful masking of floors, furniture, glass, gardens and fixtures.

Wash & sand

Surfaces cleaned of dirt, grease and chalking paint, then sanded back to a sound, smooth base.

Repair & fill

Cracks, holes, dents and open joins patched and gap-filled so they vanish under the finish coats.

Preparation FAQs

How do you protect my furniture and floors?+

Everything in the work area is covered or moved — drop sheets on floors, plastic over furniture, and careful masking of fixtures, glass and hardware before any sanding or painting begins.

Do you repair cracks and holes before painting?+

Yes — patching cracks, holes and dents is a standard part of our preparation, along with sanding, gap-filling and spot-priming repairs so they disappear under the finish coats.

How long does preparation take?+

It depends on the condition of the surfaces — prep is often the longest part of a quality job. Your written quote sets out exactly what preparation is included, so there are no surprises.
